Pointools Model for AutoCAD x64?

Postby csiebern on Thu Nov 20, 2008 10:53 pm

Hi,

Can the good people at Pointools compile an x64 .arx for AutoCAD 2008? We utilize WinXP x64 to take advantage of the more liberal memory management (>4 gb) for all our laser scanning dataset users. Native 32 bits arx applications don't have an emulator to run through in the x64 version of AutoCAD.

Thx.

We will certainly producing a 64bit version of the underlaying Vortex engine quite soon. Once this is in place we will of course provide a 64bit version of the AutoCAD plug-in.

The memory management of the engine allows you to work with projects that are many times the available RAM on your system. It is already feasible to work with 50Gb+ (pod) of data in the 32bit version, even without the 3GB switch. This has been pushed even further in development build and this will be available in the next release.

Well this has been a little slow getting started, we have our engine in 64bit (the Vortex engine) but DirectX support is not complete.

I'll post an update here in 2-3 weeks time when we will try to get this scheduled in.

thanks for your patience!

Jason,

I have tested 64bit Model in AutoCAD 2009. 2010 and 2011 versions are nearly ready. The switch from openGL to directX has proved tricky but our valiant Pointools developers have returned victorious to bring us billions of points inside autocad 2009,10 & 11 in 32 and 64bit. I post here when they are ready to ship out..
